These Vegetarian ChickN’ Parmesan Sliders are great for an easy weeknight family meal or a fun party with friends! Serve with a big salad for a balanced meal or give to your kids for lunches. These sliders would also be a great vegetarian Super Bowl snack!
I am loving that these Vegetarian ChickN’ Parmesan Sliders can double as an easy weeknight meal and a Super Bowl snack that vegetarian eaters can enjoy too! You only need a few ingredients, they’re easy to assemble and would go great with a big salad.
I’m always seeing videos of people making these cheesy baked sandwiches using the King’s Hawaiian rolls, but they always have meat in them. The Super Bowl is coming up and I thought it would be fun to do a vegetarian slider recipe using the rolls and they turned out great! I may have to add more variations soon 🙂
Vegetarian ChickN’ Parmesan Slider Recipe Ingredients and Substitutions
- Vegetarian Chicken Patties – You can usually find frozen vegan chicken patties at most regular grocery stores these days. They would be in the plant based meat section. They usually come with 4 in each box and that is how many you will need.
- Dinner Rolls – I used the classic King’s Hawaiian Rolls for this recipe. That is the brand that I always see people using when they make similar recipes and it’s really good! I used the savory butter flavor, rather than the regular sweet ones and I enjoyed that.
- Mozzarella Cheese – I used one package of sliced mozzarella cheese. You could also use provolone, real mozzarella or Monterey Jack. Sliced is easier but shredded cheese is ok too.
- Marinara Sauce – Any marinara sauce will do! Pesto would also be great if you like that.
- Butter Sauce – The melted butter sauce is made with butter, granulated garlic, dried oregano, red pepper flakes and salt. You can add as much or as little of those ingredients as you like. I didn’t actually have chili flakes on hand so I used a small spoonful of chili crips and it worked great.
How To Make Vegetarian Chicken Parmesan Sliders
- Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees F. Place the chickn patties on a large sheet pan and bake until heated through and crispy on the outside, 10-15 minutes.
- Lower oven temperature to 375 degrees F and lightly grease a oven safe dish that your dinner rolls will fit into. It doesn’t have to be perfect side, you could even use a sheet pan if needed.
- Slice your rolls in half, horizontally, and place the bottom of the rolls into your pan. Add 4 slices of cheese onto and place in the oven. Bake until cheese is melted and bread is slightly crispy. This just helps the bottom not get soggy from the sauce.
- Remove from the oven and add 1/2 cup of marinara onto of the cheese and spread out evenly. Add the chickn patties onto and then add the remaining 1/2 cup of sauce. Spread evenly and top with the remaining cheese slices and the top layer of the rolls.
- Add the butter, garlic, oregano, red pepper and salt to a small saucepan and melt over medium heat, or melt in the microwave. Use a clean kitchen brush to brush the butter mixture over top of the rolls. You can cover with aluminum foil if you like, but it’s not necessary. If you do cover with foil, make sure to take it off halfway through, so the top of the sliders can brown.
- Place the sliders in the oven and bake until cheese is completely melted, 20-25 minutes. Remove from the oven, let cool a few minutes, and use a knife to cut the rolls into sliders. Top with chopped fresh herbs, if desired, and enjoy!
Vegetarian Chicken Parmesan Slider Recipe Frequently Asked Questions
- Can this recipe be made gluten free? Yes, it can be made gluten free by using gluten free dinner rolls and a gluten free vegetarian chicken patty. I’m not sure how easy those ingredients are to get, but you might be able to change the recipe up a little to fit your needs.
- Can this recipe be made vegan? Yes, it can easily be made vegan by using a vegan dinner roll and make sure you get vegan chickn’ patties (rather than just vegetarian). You should be able to find them easily!
- Can these sliders be made ahead of time? I would suggest making them as close to the time of eating as possible so the bottom of the bread doesn’t get soggy. If needing to make a couple hours ahead of time, heat in the oven for about 10 minutes before serving, if possible.
- How long will leftovers last in the refrigerator? If stored in an airtight container, they should last about 4 days. The bottom may start getting a little soggy but re-heating in the oven might help.

Hi Izzy! First of all I just want to say how lucky your family is to have you and your amazing food-ideas to look forward to all the
time! I’m originally from Chicago but living in Italy since 1970. I’m separated from my Italian husband and have 2 grown daughters daughters (1 married with my only grand-son -10 yrs old and 1 unmarried here in Italy.)
Your recipes have let the sun-shine into my life because good vegetarian food (I’m vegetarian for over 50 yrs) are my greatest pleasure in life and here in Italy VERY hard to find. Luckily I have a great Ukrainian care-giver who’s a good cook-I asked her to make me your fantastic pita recipe-here pita is not easy to find so she made it, herself and it came out fantastic! Tomorrow begins Rosh Hashanah and there are no Jews here besides me so I was worrying how I could celebrate-your fantastic recipes have resolved the problem! I’m so happy! Just want to give my thanks to you and keep those great ideas coming!

Izzy your recipes are always so awesome and easy to make. I do have one question on this one. You use 4 Chicken Pattie’s but a dozen rolls. Do the patties cover 4 rolls then? Thank you.
She Likes Food says
Thank you so much, David!! Yes, the 4 chicken patties do end up covering the entire 12 rolls. Since the patties are circle shaped and the rolls are square, there might be a few spaces where the patties don’t reach the edge, but I didn’t notice it when I was eating them! You could also take a 5th patty and cut it up and fill in any spaces you may have. I hope you enjoy!
