These Vegan Tacos are easy to make, have great texture, and are topped with a delicious Tahini Cheese Sauce. They’re perfect for an easy vegan family dinner.
I meant to post these Vegan Tacos last Thursday, but then I got sick, and it snowed a lot, and I lost all motivation. But I’m feeling better now and excited to share them with you! I made them using the vegan taco meat I posted last Monday, and I think you will love them.
I love tacos! So much that I could seriously eat them for every single meal and not get tired of them. There are so many different ways you can make them and so many delicious toppings to choose from. I usually use beans as a filling, but I love this tofu taco meat because it’s low in carbs and filling!
Why Your Body Will Love These Tacos
- Total Tofu – Tofu is a terrific meat-free protein source; half a cup of firm tofu contains nearly 22 grams. It’s also rich in calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium, contributing to healthy bones. The isoflavones found in tofu may even prevent bone disease in women. They also reduce the not-so-great form of cholesterol, lowering the risk of heart disease and high blood pressure.
- Inside and Out Health Benefits – Tahini, a butter made of sesame seeds, contains calcium and magnesium, contributing to healthy bones. It’s also a great source of antioxidants that promote immune system health. Tahini is rich in iron (hello, blood) and vitamin E (for happy skin).
- Digestive Health – Avocado is a great source of fiber, promoting healthy digestion and helping our bodies feel full longer. It’s also high in potassium and healthy fats.
Vegan Taco Recipe Ingredients
- Vegan Taco Meat – For the vegan taco meat, you’ll need tofu, walnuts, spices, and tomato paste. It’s so easy to make, and if you have leftovers, they’re great for adding to salads or even pasta.
- Tortillas – To make them really low-carb, you can use corn tortillas, flour tortillas, or even lettuce wraps.
- Tahini Cheese Sauce – I’ve been making so much tahini cheese sauce lately! It’s an easy vegan cheese sauce that doesn’t require a heavy-duty blender or overnight soaking of nuts.
- Taco Toppings – You can top these tacos however you like. I went pretty simple this time and used avocado, red onion, cilantro, and lime juice.
Kid-Friendly Vegan Taco Recipe
I love recipes that are simultaneously a hit with my husband, but also great for children. These Vegan Tacos are perfect for kids! When serving them to my sons, I make a deconstructed version and serve them tofu, a tortilla, and avocado. They love it and it’s healthy!
How to Make These Tofu Tacos
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil. Use your fingers to crumble the tofu into bite-size pieces and place them in the pan. Cook the tofu until it starts to brown, about 15 minutes.
- Add walnuts to a food processor and blend until they have a crumb-like texture. Add all spices to a small bowl and mix until combined.
- Add the walnuts and spices to the tofu and stir. In a small bowl, mix the water and tomato paste. Pour it over the tofu mixture, stir, and cook until all water has cooked out.
- Add all of the Tahini Cheese Sauce ingredients to a bowl and whisk until combined. Warm your tortillas and fill them with taco meat, your favorite toppings, and a drizzle of tahini cheese sauce.
Recipe Tips For Vegan Tacos
- I like to warm my tortillas in a pan with oil before eating them. This makes them more pliable, so they won’t break when you fold them, and it’s always nice to put warm taco filling into a warm tortilla!
- Go crazy with the toppings! One of my favorite things about tacos is that you can put many different toppings on them. I like to have something creamy, crunchy, and acidic.
- Make sure to taste your tahini before making the tahini cheese dip. Some tahini is really bitter, making whatever you use it in bitter as well. Try to find a brand you like and stick with that one!

(Review is for the sauce only) I`m not vegan, but my daughter and a good friend are, so I often eat vegan. My friend recently broke her wrist and the friend group is taking turns cooking for her. She said she wanted tacos like I make my daughter (bbq cauliflower-chickpea and crispy potatoe). I’ve been wanting to try this sauce. Oh my! I licked the bowl clean! It was delicious on the crispy potatoe tacos.
That sounds delicious together and glad you enjoyed it!!
Love this recipe! My teenagers loved it too! Bonus!
