Learn how to make vegan feta cheese and enjoy it in all your favorite pizza and salad recipes! It’s made with tofu, tons of flavor, and is the perfect substitute for regular, dairy-based feta.
I’ve been sitting on this Vegan Feta Cheese recipe for too long! I photographed it when I made this Crispy Pita Salad but somehow totally forgot about it. Feta cheese goes so great in most summer salads, so it’s definitely time for me to share this recipe with you!
I’ve actually been sitting on it way longer than that because I first used this recipe years ago when I made this Vegan Greek Pizza. I’ve always loved Greek food, and you can’t have a Greek salad or pizza without feta!
Vegan Feta Cheese With Tofu
You can make your own vegan feta cheese in a few ways, but I chose to use tofu for mine. It’s white like feta cheese, has a similar texture, and is great for soaking up all the flavors you add. You can also cube it up or crumble it to mimic the look of real feta cheese.
What I love about feta cheese is its really nice tangy flavor. It is a cheese, so it adds creaminess to your recipe and a nice acidity to break things up. If you want a mild vegan feta cheese, you can use less vinegar and lemon juice or leave it in the marinade for a shorter time.
Why Your Body Will Love This Dairy-Free Cheese
- Vitamins and Minerals – Lemon juice is such a wholesome liquid. It contains potassium, flavonoids, and calcium and, as many of us know, is high in Vitamin C. This well-known vitamin is not only great for the immune system but also supports wound healing and collagen production.
- Protein Power – Tofu is amazing because it’s super versatile, works well in myriad dishes with various seasonings, sauces, and dressings, and is a great meat alternative because it’s a complete protein. This makes our muscles happy and our bellies satisfied.

I miss feta cheese so much after going vegan and haven’t found a good substitute. Unfortunately, i can’t do soy so i can’t try your recipe. Would you have another suggestion for me in terms of feta cheese?
thanks.

Ugh, I hear you, Jacquie! It’s not exactly like feta, but have you tried the vegan Boursin cheese spread yet? I pretty much hate all dairy free cheese alternatives, but the vegan Boursin is SO good and can be used like feta. Trader Joe’s also has a vegan feta cheese that I’ve heard is much better than some of the other brands. I hope that helps!
I have a super busy summer schedule working 180 days straight. It is my goal to eat more vegan this coming summer.
I’d like to pre-prep foods that I can pull out of the freezer. Can this “cheese” be frozen? I am new to vegan life, so if you can point me in the right direction of what can be pre-made and frozen I would greatly appreciate your info!
Thank you so much your site is awesome!

Unfortunately, I don’t think I’d recommend freezing this because the texture might not hold up. But, it can be stored in the refrigerator for about a week!
How long will this last? How do you store it? In the marinade?
I usually leave it in the refrigerator for about 5 days. I store it in an airtight container with the marinade 🙂
