This Orange Ginger Cranberry sauce is quick, easy to make, and packed with flavor. It’s the perfect accompaniment for your Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.
I don’t know about you, but cranberry sauce is a must-have for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner at our house. It’s a small part of the meal but seems to go so well with everything else. This Orange Ginger Cranberry Sauce is easy to make and packed with flavor!
I know that many people love the canned cranberry sauce, myself included, but it can be fun to make your own from scratch. It’s super quick and easy to make and helps balance the heaviness of the holiday meal.
Why Your Body Will Love This Cranberry Sauce
- Proanthocyanidins – Cranberries contain compounds called proanthocyanidins that prevent bacteria from sticking to our urinary tract walls. This reduces the risk of urinary tract infections. Proanthocyanidins also limit the growth of bacteria that cause tooth decay and gum disease.
- Vitamins and Antioxidants – Orange juice is an excellent source of vitamin C, which supports the immune system and collagen production. Oranges contain the carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin, which help prevent age-related macular degeneration of the eyes. Oranges have anti-inflammatory properties and support cardiovascular health, reducing the risk of cancer.
Orange Ginger Cranberry Sauce Recipe Ingredients
- Cranberries – You can use either fresh or frozen cranberries for this recipe.
- Orange Juice and Zest – Orange and cranberry is such a classic flavor combo.
- Maple Syrup – You want to use pure maple syrup, not pancake maple syrup. You could also substitute honey, agave syrup, or brown rice syrup.
- Coconut Sugar – You can also use brown or white granulated sugar.
- Fresh Ginger – Fresh ginger has a nice flavor kick and goes so well with the tart cranberries.
How To Make Homemade Cranberry Sauce
Homemade cranberry sauce is so easy to make! There’s basically just one step, and it doesn’t need a lot of babysitting. It’s also an easy dish to make beforehand and can be frozen and thawed when ready to eat. I prefer my cranberry sauce to be cold or room temperature, but you can serve yours warm if you like.
- Place all ingredients into a medium-sized pot. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, and simmer until cranberries are starting to burst open, 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce will thicken up a bit as it cools.
- Let cool and serve.

Loved it. I didn’t have maple syrup so I used date syrup instead and it worked very well.
Thank you!
That’s so great to hear! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
This was very good! I used maple syrup we harvested from our land along with all fresh ingredients.
So glad you enjoyed it!!
Hi, I made this and it was amazing! I used tangerines, because it’s what I had, and extra ginger because I love ginger, and it rocked my socks off! Thanks for posting! Happy holidays!!! (I cook holiday meals from Thanksgiving until Christmas, and then it’s back to the healthier choices.) Cheers!
Yah! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I love eating holiday food all season long too š
