I’ve only met one person in my life who didn’t like avocados and that one person just happens to be the person I promised to love and cherish for the rest of my life. When I first found out about his dislike of avocados I went through the 5 stages of grief, I mean who doesn’t like avocados?!
At first I didn’t believe it. Afterall, avocados are one of the most amazing foods on the planet and I just couldn’t understand how anyone could ever dislike them. Was it their color? Maybe their texture? What did they ever do to you?
Then I just got angry at him. You have to be stupid not to like avocados, right? I mean, they are so good for you, they have a delicious taste and a wonderful velvety texture. They go well with pretty much any kind of food you can imagine, especially Mexican food which is my favorite! You can use them in cookies and they are the most perfect addition to all taco salads. What kind of man had I married?
I was determined to get him to like avocados, so I would put them into all kind of different meals that he loved and ask, “do you like them now?” “How about now?” and every time he would say, “meh”. And that really just depressed me. When I put avocados on pizza and his response was, “it’s ok” I knew there was no hope and it saddened me to my very core.
Finally one day I just came to terms with it and accepted it. I had married someone who didn’t love avocados as much as I did. And guess what, I was finally able to find a silver lining. When I make a huge bowl of this Mango Black Bean Guacamole I get to eat the entire thing myself. No sharing, no fighting over who gets the last spoonful, the entire bowl is all mine! And that is something that I can be very happy about š

Doesn’t like avocados???? haha That’s crazy! Although, that would mean more for me if my husband didn’t like them, which I guess isn’t so bad like you said!! This guac looks amazingggg. Hope you are having a great weekend!!
My husband doesn’t like avocados either. Gets upset if I even say the word, let alone try to get him to eat one. But I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them. This guacamole looks so good! š
Ha ha I LOVED this post, Izzy! So funny! Have you heard of the ‘olive theory’ from How I Met Your Mother? The theory is a couple will work if one of them doesn’t like olives and the other does. That way the person who loves olives gets to eat them off the other’s plate and the olive-hater never has to. Sounds like you have your own little guacamole thing going on š And this guac looks amazing, too!
Thanks Denise!! That is funny because I’m watching How I Met Your Mother reruns right now! I do remember that one! My husband hates olives too so I always get to eat his! I should start making black olive guacamole š
I guess you just have to accept that your husband doesn’t like avocados, but you’ve found the silver lining — you get this guac all to yourself! It’s quite the opposite in my house — I have to fight for my share of guac. It’s always something, right? haha This guacamole is just perfect with the mango and black beans — love! š
I really have found the silver lining, Marcie! Haha! I guess I should be thankful I don’t have to fight people off for the guac!
Wow! this guacamole looks delicious!! Love the addition of chunky mango and black beans in this! Great share Izzy! š
Thanks Arpita! The mango makes it so good!
Haha my husband is the sane way, he is not a fan of avocado (what???). But the plus side is, all of this yummy guacamole is all for me š Love the black beans and mango in here!
I can’t believe it!! I guess we are both kinda lucky though, Kelly! We get the guac all to ourselves!
What?? Seriously, who doesn’t LOVE avocado with every ounce of their being?? Clearly someone who’s missing out. š This guac seriously looks SO good, Izzy! Unfortunately everybody in my house are guac lovers so I would definitely have to share this awesomeness!
I know, right???!!! It is crazy and I still can’t really believe it! You must have to make bucketfuls just to make sure you get some! š
My husband is the same as yours…he doesn’t like avocados! Which means that whenever we go out for Mexican, I either never order guac because I don’t want to eat the entire thing in one sitting, or I do order guac so that I can eat it all! Haha don’t know which is better! ) This black bean version looks delicious, Izzy! Love the fun twist on guac!
What??!! More for us then! I always order the side of quac and eat the entire thing, haha! Thanks, Gayle š
Avocadoes are the best! You are lucky that you get to eat them all up, I don’t like to share mine with anyone except my 2 year old, she’s hard to not share with and she loves them. This guacamole looks fantastic š
Haha, I agree Katie! I guess you gotta share with your daughter š Thanks Katie!
How can he not like avocado?!? It is fantastic. Way to look at the silver lining though. More guacamole for you!
I have no idea, Kelley! At least I’m normal and I like it, haha š
Well I married someone who doesn’t like rice, olives, OR egg yolks. SO there’s that. He does love avocado, though, which unfortunately means I’ll have to share this!
He doesn’t like rice?! That is crazy too! My husband hates olives too. More for us š
Ahhh, yes… I find most of the men in my life to be pickier about what they eat than any woman I know. What is that ?? And avocados? Oh my, Izzy. Good thing you had this whole bowl to yourself…. I’d want it too!! Rob loves Avos (hates eggplant – but I sneak it in somehow), so we share the guacamole. I wouldn’t complain though if I had this whole bowl to myself!! Delicious, Izzy and beautiful styling!
Yes, they are so picky!! I know, it is kinda crazy about the avocados! I’m guessing Eric hates eggplant too, haha! I’m not complaining at all! Thanks so much, Traci š
Ha! Loved reading your sentiments Izzy. I need avocado almost everyday, so I definitely share your passion. And when it comes to my husband I can also relate, only with eggplant instead of avocado. But this guacamole looks amazing and I would think has the power to convert even the pickiest. Oh well, his loss!!! š
Thanks, Katie! I need it everyday too! It is just a regular staple of the diet, ha! I kinda think my husband would hate it even more with the beans and mango, he is pretty picky! Definitely his loss though š
