This Greek Salad Hummus Dip is easy to make and great for a party appetizer or a light lunch! It’s packed with veggies and protein and so delicious scooped up with some crispy pita bread.
I originally wanted to make this into a 7 layer hummus dip, but then decided that it would be much tastier with all the veggies mixed together with some dressing. Greek salad is so light and refreshing and it tastes amazing over a bed of hummus!
I had the Super Bowl in mind when I decided to make this recipe, but it is also great for lunch. Serve with some pita bread, or crackers, and you have yourself a filling, healthy meal.
Greek Salad Hummus Dip Recipe Ingredients
- Hummus – You can use store-bought or homemade hummus for this recipe. I made a variation of my creamy hummus recipe. I think plain, or roasted garlic, hummus would probably be best to let the greek salad flavors shine, but you can use any flavor you like.
- Veggies – The Greek inspired salad is made using tomato, cucumber, red onion and kalamata olives. I wanted to keep the ingredients to a minimum but you can add in any other veggies you like here. Roasted red pepper and artichoke hearts would be great!
- Feta Cheese – Regular or dairy free feta cheese can be used in this recipe. I have a tofu feta recipe here, but these days it’s pretty easy to find vegan feta cheese in most grocery stores.
- Fresh Herbs + Garlic – I love adding fresh herbs to salads for an extra pop of flavor. Dill or mint would be great in a Greek salad, I only had Italian parsley on hand and that worked great too. A little fresh oregano thrown in there too would be tasty! I like to add a clove of fresh garlic, but you can leave it out if that sounds too strong to you.
- Dressing – I do a super simple dressing made with just olive oil, red wine vinegar, dried oregano, salt and pepper. Sometimes simple is better when it comes to dressings!
- Pita Bread – You can serve this hummus dip with anything you like. Pita chips or crackers would be good, but I recommend some pita bread! Unless you have warm, freshly baked pita bread, I would suggest making my Pan Fried Pita Bread recipe. It’s easy to make and the pita is crispy, warm and flavorful.
How To Make This Easy Greek Salad Hummus Dip
- If making homemade hummus, you can prepare that first. Also, if you are making my crispy pita bread you can prepare that before making the dip platter.
- To a medium sized bowl, add the cucumber, tomato, kalamata olives, onion, fresh herbs, garlic, olive oil, red wine vinegar, dried oregano and a pinch of salt and pepper (to taste). Mix everything together, add the feta cheese and gently mix again.
- You will want to use a large oval or round serving plate, a cutting board would even work. Spread the hummus in an even layer on the bottom of the platter. Next, use a slotted spoon to scoop the Greek salad over the hummus. The liquid in the bowl is really flavorful, but will make things a little soggy if there is too much.
- If serving to a crowd, it’s nice to sprinkle the top with some extra fresh herbs and feta cheese. You can serve with the pita on the side of the plate or the pita can be on its own plate. For serving: pita can be scooped directly into the dip or you can put a few spoonfuls of the dip on a plate and dip from there.
Recipe Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this recipe vegan? I used regular feta cheese, but vegan feta cheese can easily be used.
- Is this recipe gluten free? The pita is not gluten free but the Greek hummus dip by itself is completely gluten free.
- How should this dip be served? You can either put a spoon out and people can spoon some onto their own plate, or if comfortable people can dip their pita right into the dip on the platter.
- Can I make this ahead of time? I would suggest making the hummus and Greek salad ahead of time and then assembling the hummus dip just before serving.
- How long will leftovers last? Salads that are dressed tend to not stay good as long in the refrigerator, but if stored in an airtight container it should be good for about 3 days.
