If you’ve made my 30 Minute Sesame Ginger Noodles than you’ve actually already tasted the BEST Stir Fry Sauce! I’ve been making this easy homemade stir fry sauce for a few years now and it seriously makes everything taste good!
This Healthy Stir Fry Sauce Recipe is made from simple ingredients and contains no refined sugar and uses arrowroot powder instead of corn starch. I love that these ingredients are ones that I pretty much always have on hand so I can whip up an easy stir fry any day of the week and my two year old will pretty much eat anything coated with this vegan stir fry sauce!

Stir Fry Sauce Ingredients and Substitutions
- Toasted Sesame Oil – You want to make sure you get the toasted sesame oil because it has a lot more flavor than regular sesame oil.
- Pure Maple Syrup – Make sure to get pure maple syrup, rather than the pancake maple syrup that has a lot of added ingredients and is much sweeter. The maple syrup adds a nice sweetness to the stir fry sauce. You could also use honey or even agave syrup if you like.
- Tamari – Tamari is a naturally gluten free sauce that is very similar to soy sauce. Tamari is a little thicker than soy sauce and I prefer to use it but soy sauce will work great in this recipe too! Whether using tamari or soy sauce, I like to go with the low sodium version if possible.
- Fresh Garlic – Fresh garlic has such a strong, great taste and adds a lot to this stir fry sauce! I always recommend using fresh garlic cloves rather than the jarred, chopped garlic. It just doesn’t have the same taste.
- Fresh Ginger – Fresh ginger tastes so much better than dried ginger, so I always use fresh ginger in my stir fry sauce when I can. It’s best when it’s grated so there aren’t big chunks in the sauce because ginger can be a little tough.
- Toasted Sesame Seeds – Toasted sesame seeds are totally optional but they add a little texture and usually go well with what you are serving the stir fry sauce with.
- Cornstarch – The cornstarch is what makes the stir fry sauce thicken up so it can nicely coat the noodles, vegetables or protein you are serving it with. You could also use arrowroot starch.
- Water – Just use the same water you use for drinking water.
How To Make This EASY Stir Fry Sauce:
- To throw together the stir fry sauce all you need to do is add all the ingredients to a jar or bowl and whisk until combined. The only thing that requires a little bit of actual work is grating the ginger and garlic but even that part is super easy.
- Once you’ve given the sauce a good shake you just pour it over your almost cooked stir fry. You want your stir fry to be just a few minutes from being finished because the sauce only takes 3-5 minutes to thicken up.
- After you pour it over your stir fry you just stir until the sauce is thickened and coating all your ingredients. You cook it until it’s as thickened as you like. I prefer mine to be just thick enough to coat the back of a spoon but I also want there to be extra sauce for drizzling over my meal.
Stir Fry Sauce Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I make this stir fry sauce ahead of time? Yes, I would recommend leaving the cornstarch out until ready to use though.
- How should I use this stir fry sauce? It can be used with veggies, tofu, chickpeas, tempeh, meat and so much more! I like to drizzle it over rice or even noodles.
- Can I cut down on the amount of maple syrup in the recipe? Yes, it may change the texture of the sauce slightly but it should make much of a difference.
- Can the cornstarch be left out of the recipe? The cornstarch is what really helps the stir fry sauce thicken up so I would recommend using it if you can. You can also substitute arrowroot starch. If you leave it out the sauce will just be a little more liquidy and won’t coat the other ingredients as much, but it will still taste good!
- Can I use an oil other than toasted sesame oil? I wouldn’t recommend it. The toasted sesame oil adds so much great flavor!

Ingredients
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/3 cup tamari, I like to use low sodium
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 1/4 cup toasted sesame oil
- 1 clove garlic, finely grated
- 1 1/2 teaspoons finely grated ginger
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch or arrowroot starch
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- Add all stir fry ingredients to a jar or medium sized bowl and shake or stir until well combined. This stir fry sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated until needed but I would recommend leaving out the arrowroot powder until ready to use.
- When your stir fry is about 3 minutes from being finished, pour the stir fry sauce over and stir occasionally until sauce is thickened and coats the back of a spoon or spatula, about 5 minutes.

Not sure if you got this but I also use coconut aminos ,for no soy and omit the pure maple syrup and so tasty in all my same stir fry,Thai dishes …I cant have soy..
