Description

These BBQ Tofu Sandwiches are so quick and easy to make!  You only need a few ingredients, including tofu, your favorite BBQ Sauce, buns and colseslaw (optional).  These plant based sandwiches are great for all your summer picnic and barbecue needs and also work great for easy lunches and dinners.  Serve with chips, fries or veggies and enjoy!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (16 oz) block super firm tofu, or extra firm
  • 1 tablespoon oil, whatever kind you prefer
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons corn starch
  • 1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup your favorite BBQ sauce, or more if desired
  • 4 hamburger buns, gluten free or regular
  • Cooking spray
  • Colelsaw or veggies for topping, if desired

Instructions

  1. Remove tofu from the package and press any excess water out, as needed.  Cut the block of tofu into small, bite sized pieces.  You can also tear them up into small pieces with your hands.
  2. To a medium sized bowl, add the oil, soy sauce, paprika, garlic powder, corn starch and salt.  Whisk together until corn starch has dissolved.  Add the diced tofu to the bowl and mix everything together until tofu is completely coated.
  3. Heat a large pan over medium heat and spray with a little bit of cooking spray.  Add in the tofu and arrange in a single layer.  Cook tofu until browned and crispy, 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally.  The tofu will brown faster if you don’t mess with it quite as much.
  4. Turn the heat off and then add in the bbq sauce.  Stir until the tofu is coated and serve on a bun with some coleslaw, if desired.  Enjoy!

Notes

I have a homemade colelsaw recipe here, if interested!

I prefer to use super firm tofu that has been pre-pressed.  I love the texture it has and it’s easy to work with.  If you can’t find super firm, extra firm will work.  Just make sure to press as much liquid out as you can.
