This BBQ Chickpea Pizza requires only a few ingredients and is ready in just 30 minutes. It’s unique, flavorful, and perfect for your next vegan pizza night!
I hope 2021 is treating you well so far! I haven’t had as much time to work as usual, but I hope to get back to my regular posting schedule this week! Today, I’m sharing the recipe for this delicious BBQ Chickpea Pizza. It was recently one of the recipes in my Mind Body Soul Reset Challenge, and everyone loved it!
This pizza is inspired by a BBQ Chicken pizza from one of my all-time favorite pizza places in Springdale, UT, The Pizza Noodle. My husband and I went on our second date there, and we were always huge fans of their BBQ Chicken Pizza. I decided to create this vegan version, and it’s delicious!
Why Your Body Will Love This Vegan BBQ Pizza
- Chickpeas are super(food!) – Chickpeas contain saponins, which help fight cancer, and calcium, iron, and other nutrients that contribute to bone health. Chickpeas help the brain and nervous system function properly and contain vitamins A, C, E, folate, and magnesium.
- Fiber – Chickpeas offer an abundance of fiber, which benefits the digestive system, helps fill us up, and keeps our bodies feeling full for longer.
- Bone Health – Cheese is a great source of calcium, which is important for many reasons, including bone health. Our bones are composed primarily of calcium but don’t produce their own, so we must get as much as we can from our diets. Calcium helps maintain bone density, which reduces the risk of bone fractures and helps us maintain our body structure as we age.
BBQ Chickpea Pizza Recipe Ingredients
- Pizza Crust – You can use homemade or store-bought pizza crust. I like buying personal-sized pre-made pizza crusts because it makes this recipe super easy and everyone can have their own little pizza.
- BBQ Sauce – Store-bought or homemade is fine. Again, I like this recipe to be super easy, so I use a good store-bought brand.
- Chickpeas – The chickpeas make this a veganized version of a classic BBQ Chicken pizza. I like to crisp and season mine in a frying pan before adding them to the pizza.
- Cheese – You can use either vegan cheese or regular cheese. If using vegan cheese, you may need to broil your pizza for a few minutes to melt the cheese.
- Red Onion and Cilantro – These are optional ingredients, but they make such a difference! The red onion adds great flavor, the cilantro adds freshness, and both go great with the BBQ flavor.
How To Make BBQ Chickpea Pizza
- Heat the oven to 425 degrees F. Heat a large pan over medium heat and add olive oil and chickpeas. Cook until the chickpeas start to brown, about 5 minutes. Add all the spices, stir, and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
- You can use one large pizza crust or personal-sized crusts. I like to use store-bought crust to make things really easy. Spread the crust with the desired amount of BBQ sauce and top with cheese, chickpeas, and onion. Bake the pizzas until heated through and the cheese is melted, 10-15 minutes. Let cool a few minutes and garnish with fresh cilantro, if desired.
BBQ Pizza Frequently Asked Questions
- Do you have to season the chickpeas? No, you can put them on straight out of the can, but I love them crisp and seasoned.
- Can I use tomato sauce if I can’t find BBQ sauce? You can if that is your only option. This is a BBQ pizza, though, and that’s what makes it special.
- Are the red onion and cilantro necessary? You can definitely omit them, but I think they add such great flavor to the pizza!
- How should it be reheated? I suggest either microwaving for 1-2 minutes or reheating in a 425-degree oven for about 15 minutes.

OMG this BBQ chickpea pizza is the most splendid pizza of all times! I would certainly recommend this delicacy to Guy Fieri because I know how much he & his family loves pizza. Angie & I test tasted it and we both thought it was amazing. We told everybody how terrible it was so we can have it all to ourselves.
hahaha, that’s awesome!
