Chunky Avocado Salsa Ingredients and Substitutions
- Tomato – You can use any kind of tomato you want in this recipe. I used Roma tomatoes because that’s what I had on hand today, but I’ve also made this recipe using vine-ripe and cherry tomatoes.
- Onion – I used white onion because I love its crunch and mild flavor. I usually use white onion in my salsa recipes. Any color onion will work, though!
- Cilantro – I know that some people really don’t like cilantro, but I love it and use it a lot! If you don’t like cilantro, you can sub parsley, mint, or another fresh herb you prefer.
- Avocado – The avocado is the star of this Chunky Avocado Salsa recipe, so don’t leave it out! I can almost always find ripe avocados at the grocery store, no matter what time of year it is, so hopefully, you can, too!
- Garlic – I like to use fresh garlic rather than the pre-minced garlic from a jar. You can use however much or as little as suits you. I used about three cloves.
- Jalapeno – Jalapeno is optional and can be left out if you dislike spicy things. I used a little bit of jalapeño, but you can put as much in as you want. Serrano pepper can also be used.
- Lime Juice – I like to use fresh lime juice rather than bottled.
- Cumin and Paprika – Cumin and paprika add such a nice flavor that I love with avocado.
- Salt – To taste.
How To Make The Best Avocado Salsa
You only need about 10 minutes to make this tasty recipe!
- Start by chopping all of your ingredients. I like removing the watery seeds inside the tomato so the salsa doesn’t get too liquidy.
- Add the chopped tomato, onion, cilantro, garlic, and jalapeno to a large bowl and mix until combined.
- Cut your avocados in half, remove the pit, and peel off the outside skin. Dice the avocado into bite-size pieces and add them to the bowl.
- Next, add the lime juice, cumin, paprika, and salt. Mix everything together, taste, and adjust the spices if needed. Enjoy!
