This Garlic Cheese Bread is made with only a few ingredients and is so delicious and flavorful! Enjoy it by itself or as a dinner appetizer, and kids love it, too!
Do you all see a theme with my recipes lately? They’re all super easy to make! I always try to make my recipes easy, but right now, I’m really focusing on easy meals with minimal ingredients. I’ve been making this Garlic Cheese Bread for months, so I figured it was finally time to share it with you!
One of the secrets to this easy garlic cheese bread is the dough. This dough has been circulating around the internet for some time, and I have no idea who was the first to come up with it. They call it the “Weight Watchers Dough,” and it’s made with just two simple ingredients: plain, non-fat Greek yogurt and self-rising flour.
What You’ll Need For This Garlic Cheese Bread Recipe
- Greek Yogurt – It must be plain non-fat Greek yogurt for the best results.
- Flour – For this recipe, you will need self-rising flour. Yes, it’s not as healthy as whole wheat, but it works here.
- Butter – The butter is optional, but it acts as a nice base and adds a little more richness, which we all need right now 🙂
- Garlic Powder & Dried Herbs – I use garlic powder instead of fresh garlic because it’s so easy and still tastes great! You could also use 1-2 cloves of minced regular garlic. For the dried herbs, I used herbs de Provence because I just love the flavor but you could also use any other dried Italian herbs.
- Cheese – Any cheese will work! Whatever you have on hand is great.
What Makes This Cheesy Garlic Bread Different?
A lot of cheesy garlic bread recipes use an actual bread base, but I find this recipe is similar to the cheesy bread that you can order from a pizza place, which is my favorite kind. The bread is thin and loaded with cheese and garlic flavor, just the way I like it. It’s basically just like a pizza but with a few added ingredients and no sauce.
How To Make This Easy Cheesy Garlic Bread
This Cheesy Garlic Bread is great for an appetizer on your Friday pizza night, or you can eat it alone. I usually make one of these plus a pizza, and the kids eat this while my husband and I enjoy both the garlic bread and pizza 🙂
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Add the flour and yogurt to a medium-sized bowl and mix until a dough is formed. You will probably have to use your hands to get it all mixed together. Line a large sheet pan with a non-stick mat or parchment paper and lightly grease it. Use your hands to press out the dough. You want it to be about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread the butter evenly over the dough and sprinkle with 1/2 -1 teaspoon of granulated garlic and dried herbs. Top with cheese and sprinkle again with garlic and dried herbs. If desired, sprinkle a little kosher salt on top.
- Bake the cheese bread until it begins to brown and the cheese is bubbly, about 15 minutes. Let it cool for a few minutes, cut into rectangles and serve with marinara or ranch.

Made this bread today to go with cabbage and tater soup, yum, yum, delicious bread, and all so easy, I subbed 1/2 cup of sour cream mixed with 1/2 cup coffee creamer, in place of yougurt, used garlic powder, and Italian seasoning, left out the salt, thumbs up.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!! The soup sounds delicious too 🙂
These turned out amazing! Perfect texture. I didn’t roll mine out quite as thin because I like the bread to be thicker, but it’s perfect! Tastes just like what you would get from the pizza place.
That is so great to hear, Anna! I’m glad you enjoyed the cheese bread! 🙂
Could I use heavy cream instead of the yogurt or will that change the texture?
Hi Sharita, for this recipe, you must use the greek yogurt. Heavy cream will not be a adequate substitute 🙂
Would you please recommend a good marinara sauce for the garlic bread dip?
I love all the products from Rao Homemade brand!
